Priority: Be a Leader in Trauma-Focused Care and Family Partnerships Why It’s Important: • Greater awareness of the impact of trauma on behaviors leads to more effective teams providing better care for youth. • Restoring and maintaining family connections is better for children and families. Priority in Action: • Youth at Woodbourne Center, Baltimore, experienced the benefits of trauma-sensitive yoga, breathing, mindfulness, and movement work through a collaboration with Holistic Life Foundation designed to aid youth in recovering from trauma. • Mille Lacs Academy, Onamia, brings youth and families closer together at the onset of treatment through Fam-ily Collaborative meetings. Youth and family members meet to identify their own strengths as well as the skills they would like to develop. Family therapy begins earlier, too, with 95% of fam-ilies having contact with a clinician within three business days of their child’s admission.
